Domain Registration Policy

Last updated 16 October 2026 5 min read

The short version

  • You are the registrant: the domain is yours for as long as you keep renewing it.
  • Keep your contact details accurate, and answer the registry's verification email when it comes.
  • WHOIS privacy is free and on by default.
  • You can move a domain to another registrar or another Social Boost Lab account, except within 60 days of registering or transferring it.
  • Disputes about who should own a domain follow ICANN's UDRP.

This summary helps you find your way. The full text below is what applies.

1. How domain registration works

We register domains for you through ICANN-accredited registrars that we partner with. Each domain ending (such as .com, .ng or .co.uk) is run by a registry with its own rules. This policy, the Terms, the partner registrar's registration agreement, and the registry's and ICANN's policies all apply to your domain. Where they conflict, the registry's and ICANN's rules come first.

ICANN publishes the rights and responsibilities of domain registrants in its Registrants' Benefits and Responsibilities.

2. You are the registrant

  • The domain is registered to you (or your organisation) as the registrant, for the period you paid for.
  • You must give accurate contact details and keep them up to date. When ICANN rules require, the registry or registrar sends you an email to verify your details. If you don't confirm it within 15 days, the domain may be suspended until you do.
  • You're responsible for how the domain is used, including the websites and email on it. Registering a domain doesn't give you rights to a trademark in it.

3. WHOIS privacy

Where the domain ending allows it, WHOIS privacy is free and on by default, so your personal contact details aren't published in the public WHOIS. Some endings (such as some country endings) don't allow privacy or require local presence. We show this before you buy. Registries and registrars may still disclose registrant data to law enforcement or to people with a legitimate legal reason, as ICANN rules permit.

4. Renewals and expiry

  • Domains are registered for one year at a time, or longer where offered. Auto-renew is on by default and charges your wallet before the expiry date. We send reminders before expiry, as ICANN requires.
  • If a domain isn't renewed, it stops working after it expires. Most endings then give a grace period in which you can still renew at the normal price, followed by a redemption period in which it can only be restored for a higher restoration fee. After that it is released and anyone may register it.
  • Renewal and restoration prices are shown before you pay. See the Refund Policy for what can be refunded.

5. Transfers

  • Transfer in. Unlock the domain at your current registrar, get its transfer (EPP) code, and start the transfer in Domains β€Ί Transfer in. Most transfers add a year and complete in 5 to 7 days.
  • Transfer out. Request your transfer code under the domain's Transfer & sharing tab. We unlock the domain and send the code, usually within one working day. We won't refuse a transfer except where ICANN's Transfer Policy allows it (for example in the first 60 days after registration or a previous transfer, during a dispute, or for evidence of fraud).
  • Moving between accounts. You can move a domain to another Social Boost Lab account, which must accept it. Remove any website or business email from it first.
  • Changing the registrant's name or organisation may lock the domain against transfers for 60 days, as ICANN requires. We tell you before this happens and, where allowed, let you opt out.

6. DNS, nameservers and email records

You can manage DNS records, nameservers and redirects yourself. Changes can take up to 48 hours to spread across the internet. Before applying record changes for email providers, we show you exactly what will change, and earlier versions can be restored. You're responsible for changes you make, including those that stop a website or email from working.

7. Abuse, suspensions and disputes

  • We act on reports of domains used for phishing, malware, spam, fraud or illegal content, following our Acceptable Use Policy and the registry's rules. This may include suspending the domain.
  • Trademark disputes about generic domains (such as .com) are handled under ICANN's Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (UDRP). Country domains follow their own registry's dispute policy (for example Nominet for .uk, and NiRA for .ng). We follow the decisions of these processes and of courts.
  • Report domain abuse to support@socialboostlab.com with the domain name and evidence. We acknowledge reports within 2 working days.

8. If you close your account

Move your domains to another registrar or another account before closing it. If you close your account with domains still on it, they stay registered to you until they expire, and you can still ask us for their transfer codes.
